Previous Experience

No previous experience is required to participate in Kayak Center programs. We design programs with beginners in mind, and love to introduce people to new experiences. For those with some kayak experience, our staff will try to provide more advanced skills and feedback on current technique.

What is Included in Program Cost

  • Instruction and Leadership: our trained and certified staff will teach you the skills you need to know to be successful!
  • Equipment: Personal Flotation Devices (aka life jackets), whistles, paddles, and kayaks are provided.
  • Transportation: via 12-passanger van, sometimes used for shuttles upriver

Physical Exertion/Swim Levelw
In general, if you are a person in good physical health, you should expect to do fine. We recommend but do not require that participants know how to swim or tread water. Knowing how to swim reduces anxiety about flipping the boat and allows participants to relax and focus on learning.
